The bunker

An authentic place

On July 8, 1942, the 7th German Army established its headquarters in the offices of the General Mutual Societies of Le Mans, Rue Chanzy. From this building, General Dollmann commanded and organized the defense of all of Brittany as well as Normandy (then under the command of Erwin Rommel). At the beginning of 1943, the Todt organization built around thirty bunkers in the Le Mans area, including this Bunker No. 1, in front of the headquarters of this 7th Army.
From the early hours of June 6, 1944 and for three weeks, Dollmann locked himself there with his staff in order to repel the Allied invasion. Sealed at the end of the war, it will be opened to the public in 2014.
A story that we will tell you during your visit to the museum.
